Born and raised in Southern California, Dr. Qureshi descends from a distinguished lineage of ulama and began his academic journey with a degree in economics from UC Irvine. His path in sacred learning began in 2002 at the Institute of Knowledge’s Islamic Sciences Program (ISP), where he studied Arabic and Islamic Studies. In 2007, he pursued traditional Islamic studies abroad, first in Damascus at the Abu Noor Institute and later at al-Azhar University in Cairo, where he earned his degree from the College of Shariah. Over nearly a decade, he was granted ijazat in all major Islamic sciences by leading scholars from across the Muslim world.
Upon returning to the U.S., Dr. Qureshi earned his Ph.D. in the Study of Religion from the University of Southern California under the mentorship of Dr. Sherman Jackson. His groundbreaking dissertation reexamines the continuity and adaptability of Islamic law, exploring how Shariah remains faithful to divine revelation while responding to historical and cultural change.
